Yurt Assembly at Covenant Hills Camp
June 29, 2006

A group of seven people including Burlington FUMC members Larry, Ann & Sara Barber as well as former members Jan and Maurice Rathbun gathered to assemble the Yurt kit that had been given to Covenant Hills Camp. The foundation had been made and the Yurt went up by 4 PM.

What is a Yurt?

It's a round structure based on the Mongolian tents (or gers) that have been used by nomads on the central Asian steppes for more than 2,000 years. Modern versions consist of a wooden frame covered tautly with weatherproof fabric. These are built on platforms that can be adjusted to sit evenly, no matter how steep a slope. An opening at the top allows in light and air.
